No!
There are many styles of acupuncture practiced around the world. While they share the same foundational principles, their diagnostic methods and treatment approaches may differ.
TCM / Eight Principles
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) often uses the Eight Principles—yin/yang, hot/cold, internal/external, and excess/deficiency—to guide diagnosis and treatment.
Practitioners may also assess pulse qualities, tongue appearance, patterns of disharmony, and physical and emotional symptoms.
Treatments typically involve multiple needles placed throughout the body and retained, and may be supported by herbal medicine.
Five Element (Worsley Style)
Five Element acupuncture, as taught by J. R. Worsley, focuses on identifying and treating the root imbalance through the Causative Factor.
Diagnosis includes pulse assessment, observation of color, sound, odor, and emotion (CSOE) and the four traditional examinations: looking, listening/smelling, asking, and palpation.
Even if two people share the same symptoms, their treatments may be entirely different. This style treats the individual, not just the condition.
It also follows the Law of Least Action, using the minimum number of needles necessary to create the most meaningful shift. In this approach, less truly is more.
